For the front-page article in The Washington Post—"In southwest Va, as more need help, aid organization has less to give" (April 17, 2011)—national reporter Eli Saslow visited New River Community Action in Radford, Virginia. To read the article, click here. Saslow spent time with staff and interviewed them about the increase in requests for assistance, the area's high level of poverty, and the CAA's decreased funding streams, including the proposed cuts to the federal Community Services Block Grant (CSBG). He also spoke with Don Mathis, President and CEO of the Community Action Partnership.
