*The American Community Survey (ACS) is an ongoing survey that provides data every year—giving communities the current information they need to plan investments and services—and the federal government uses ACS data to allocate more than $450 billion annually in program funds to state and local governments. The US House of Representatives recently voted to eliminate funding for the ACS.

Community Action Stories featured in CNN Money’s “The Faces of Poverty”

Shortly after the Census Bureau released the 2010 national poverty data, Don Mathis received an email from a reporter at CNN Money requesting specific stories on how lower-income people were faring in this tough economy. Don reached out to several CAAs across the country for examples, and some of the stories were included in “The Faces of Poverty” photo gallery on CNN Money’s website, The photo gallery was posted on September 20, 2011.

 Community Action and Workforce Investment Act participant Gracey Ibarra Attends President's Jobs Speech

Gracey Ibarra, a Community Action and Workforce Investment Act(WIA) participant from Inter-County Community Council in Oklee, Minnesota, was invited to sit with First Lady Michelle Obama during the President's jobs speech at the White House September 8, 2011. While in DC, she also got to meet Hilda Solis, Secretary of the US Department of Labor-whose office invited Gracey to attend the speech after reading about her accomplishments as a Community Action and WIA participant.

Don Mathis, President and CEO of the Community Action Partnership, was one of 100 participants from across America invited by the Obama administration to the White House Rural Economic Forum held in Peosta, Iowa on August 16.

Tom Stovall, CCAP, Executive Director of Operation: New View CAA in Dubuque, arranged interviews for Don with the local media who were covering the forum. Coverage appeared in the Telegraph Herald, The Gazette, and KCRG-TV (ABC affiliate).



MEDICAID AD
